PrinSys LeakMonitor is a system designed to address the common problem of water leaks in older buildings. The focus of this work is to create a sustainable, flexible, battery-free sensor node that is cost-effective and easy to install. By emphasizing environmentally friendly design, the goal of the LeakMonitor system is to reduce maintenance needs and environmental impacts.

The research involves developing energy-harvesting electrodes that utilize printed electronics sensor technology. A high-performance, energy-efficient sensor circuit on a chip is being developed, targeted at specific applications identified through thorough market research.

The aim of LeakMonitor is to significantly lower the direct and indirect costs associated with water damage. The current market share of leakage detection solutions is limited in older buildings due to high costs and complex installation processes. This system addresses these challenges by providing a more user-friendly and affordable alternative that leverages integrated electronics and flexible, practical semiconductor technology. This innovative approach not only improves efficiency but also supports sustainability goals by eliminating reliance on traditional battery technology.

Hydrodetector innovation supports sustainable development by replacing toxic materials and complex manufacturing processes with non-toxic, environmentally friendly alternatives. It leverages simple methods like printing technology to create flexible, cost-effective Hydrodetector sensor nodes for energy harvesting, sensing, and communication.

By eliminating the use of harmful components found in conventional batteries — such as cobalt, nickel, and ammonium chloride — this solution introduces an eco-friendly sodium chloride (NaCl) alternative. HydroDetector harvests energy directly from fluid leaks, reducing pollution and health risks while promoting sustainable energy use and environmental protection.
